MADISON, Wis. – Junior Jordan Hahn fired a 5-under par 67 and sits in second place after the first round of the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course on Sunday. Hahn carded five birdies and an eagle in tying the best round by a Badger at University Ridge and his best round at UW. Former Badger Jim Lemon also shot a 67 at University Ridge, in the third round of the 2000 Badger Invitational.

Freshman Griffin Barela, playing in his first collegiate tournament, overcame two bogeys in his first five holes to shoot a 71 and earn a share of 10th place after the first round. Hahn and Barela's under par rounds helped the Badgers sit in a tie for second place after the first day, with a team score of -3. 

"I'm really happy with the start to our season," UW head coach Michael Burcin said. "I think today showed off our depth. It's only one day and there's still a long way to go, but I was very pleased with how the day went."

Texas A&M, which tied the Badger Invitational single-round record with a 276, holds the team lead at -12. The Aggies' Chandler Phillips shot a 66, one shot off the course record, to lead the tournament. 

Senior Eddie Wajda (+1) and sophomores Nick Robinson (+2) and Pete Kuhl (+6), rounded out UW's lineup.

The Badger Invitational continues Monday at University Ridge with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT. The 54-holel tournament concludes on Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at BirdieFire.com (http://bfire.co/-acdc2/).
