MADISON, Wis. – The last Wisconsin men's golfer to win a tournament was Dan Woltman, who tied for first at the Boilermaker Invitational in 2009. UW's
Jordan Hahn has a chance to end that drought at the Badger Invitational.
The junior shot a 1-under par 71 on Monday and sits at 6-under par after 36 holes at University Ridge Golf Course. That puts him in third place, just two shots back of co-leaders Chandler Phillips of Texas A&M and Andy Spencer of Kansas. Spencer tied the collegiate tournament course record with a 65 in Monday's second round.
Hahn was 3-over par through his first three holes but rebounded to birdie eight of his next 12 holes. A bogey on his second-to-last hole dropped him to 1-under for the day but his overall round kept him in contention leading into the final day.
"Jordan kept himself in the mix today," head coach
Michael Burcin said. "He's capable of getting on a run and playing some really good golf, so tomorrow should be fun.
"As a team, we couldn't really get anything going but I'm proud of the way the guys battled. A lot of things went well for us yesterday but today we had to deal with a little adversity. That's a good learning experience, especially early in the season."
Freshman
Griffin Barela shot his second-straight 71 and is tied for 13th place at -2. Playing just his second round as a Badger, Barela was consistent all day, recording three birdies and two bogeys, lipping out a 15-foot putt on No. 7 to just miss another birdie.
"Griffin continues to impress in his first week as a Badger," Burcin said. "He's very steady."
Sophomore
Nick Robinson shot a 74 for the second-straight day and is tied for 39th place at 4-over par. Senior Eddie Wajda is two shots back in a tie for 49th while sophomore
Pete Kuhl is tied for 80th (+12). As a team, Wisconsin is in seventh place at 2-over par.
Five Badgers are competing as individuals. Freshman
Sam Anderson leads that group at +4 after shooting a 73 in the second round. Senior
Michael Abrahamson shot a 74 today and is 7-over for the tournament. Freshmen
Tom Calbi and
Robbie Morway are +12 and +13 respectively. Junior
Brett Robinson rounds out the group at +17.
The Badger Invitational concludes Tuesday at University Ridge with play scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found at
