Hahn leads dominant Badgers to first tournament title since 2015

Kennesaw, Ga.— Senior Jordan Hahn tied for first individually and propelled the Wisconsin men's golf team to a convincing five-stroke victory over an 11-team field at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia.

All fall, the Wisconsin men's golf team has shown steady improvement and flashes of reaching its full potential. Since their impressive third round performance at the Marquette Intercollegiate on Oct. 2, the Badgers have been nothing short of sensational.

In those 21 days, the Badgers have broken the 54-hole school record with an 11-under par total of 841 at the Fighting Irish Classic and have now taken first place at the Pinetree Intercollegiate, their first team tournament victory since the NYX Hoosier Invitational in April of 2015.

UW took the title on the strength of three top-10 finishes, including Hahn's T-1st. For Hahn, it was a career-best finish and his ninth top-10 as a Badger.

After the first nine holes, Hahn was even for the day and 4-under par for the tournament. A birdie at No. 11 got him into red figures but he was still two shots back of the lead when he approached the 16th tee. Three consecutive birdies later he was 8-under par for the tournament and had played himself into a two-man playoff for medalist honors. A bogey on the first playoff hole gave the title to Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent but Hahn became the second Badger is less than a year to tie for first at a 54-hole event, joining teammate Griffin Barela (T1st at the D.A. Weibring Invitational on April 1).

Joining Hahn in the top 10 were fellow senior Pete Kuhl and Barela. Kuhl earned a share of fifth place, his best finish as a Badger, shooting a career low 213 (-3). Barela earned the third top-10 finish of his career by placing ninth with an even par 216.

Rounding out the Badgers' five were sophomores Sam Anderson and Tom Calbi. Anderson tied for 20th, the best 54-hole finish of his career (221, +5) while Calbi earned a share of 38th at +12.

Freshman Cameron Frazier competed as an individual and earned a share of 56th place.

The Badgers played consistently all week, scoring a 286 in the first and second rounds, and doing one better in the final round, notching a 285 to win the tournament.

UW
entered the final round tied for second, two shots back of 36-hole leader Western Kentucky, but the Badgers' final round-best 3-under par 285 earned them the victory.

Thoughts from Coach Burcin:
"Proud of the guys this week and really the last seven rounds of golf they've played have been so strong. It was a team effort and it is always fun to win. This is huge momentum for the winter break and what can be accomplished this spring. This is a talented team and it's starting to show."

Up Next:
The Badgers won't return to the links until Feb. 9-10 for Big Ten Match Play in Palm Coast, Florida.
