Badgers grab pair of wins on final day of Pac-12 Invite

Wisconsin takes two of three races over USC

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The No. 13 Wisconsin women's rowing team closed out the Pac-12 Invite with a pair of wins in both eights over No. 11 USC. UW ultimately took two of three races over the Trojans at Redwood Shores Sunday morning.

In the first race of the day, Wisconsin's varsity eight crossed the 2,000-meter mark with a time of 6:30.6 seconds, upsetting No. 11 USC by seven seconds (6:37.7).

Sitting at the start line for the next heat, the UW second varsity eight was unaware of the varsity win, but was locked in from the start to secure the back-to-back win over USC. The 2V8 clocked in at 6:41.2 while USC crossed the line nearly six seconds behind UW (6:47.1).

The UW varsity four battled the Trojans down the course, but fell short by just over two seconds as the UW boat finished with a time of 7:30.0. USC crossed the line with a time of 7:27.7.

Next up
The Badgers return home to an open Lake Mendota and will be back in action in two weeks on Saturday, April 13, at the Big Ten Double Dual in Iowa City, Iowa. UW will battle it out with both Iowa and Indiana during this one-day regatta.

On the weekend

"This weekend was really something special for our team. It reinforced the fact that this team is special. The unity that they have and the combination of effort is much greater than any one individual part of it. That is what we are building on and that is what we are coming back to work on. Hopefully we will be able to get back on the water and keep working, but even if we can't we are in this together."

"We put together some really good learning experiences and each race we were able to get better. That is what it is all about. We are a team full of racers and excited to get even faster."
