CONCEPCION, Chile – A gold and three silver medals. That's the haul of former Badgers Grace Joyce and Isa Darvin from the 2023 Pan American Games Qualification Regatta that wrapped up on Wednesday.

The result for the Badger medal count is four Team USA boats qualifying for the 2023 Pan American Games that will take place from Oct. 21-25 in Chile.

Joyce won gold in the women's single sculls on Wednesday. She grabbed the lead around 750 meters into the 2000-meter race and led the rest of the way. She held off a late-charging Chilean rower to win by 0.55 seconds.

"This morning, I really worked to focus in on my race plan, stay internal, and not be shaken by the other competitors' fast first quarter," Joyce said. "I felt confident through the race, and I was happy with my execution. I'm walking away happy with my performance and eager to get back to make the changes necessary to be faster for the Pan American Games in October. I am beyond hyped to have qualified for the Pan Am Games in the single."

Joyce also helped Team's USA's women's quadruple sculls take silver on Monday to earn a Pan American Games spot in October. Host-country Chile won the event by just under three seconds over the second-place Americans.

The Northfield, Illinois, native, boasts three prior appearances as a member of the U.S. national team, including most recently in the women's quadruple sculls at the 2022 World Rowing Championships in Czech Republic. She competed for both the lightweight and openweight programs during her time at UW (2016-20).

Darvin earned her first silver medal of the event on Monday with a second place in the women's pair. Her crew finished just over six seconds behind champion Canada in the race.

She won her second silver medal on Tuesday, rowing with the women's coxless four. Chile won the event over Darvin and Team USA by just over three seconds. Mexico placed third, just over three seconds behind the Americans.

The Madison, Wisconsin, native, a 2020 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-American nominee while at UW (2017-21), made here international debut at this event.
