Head coach Beau Hoopman
"Going to Marietta College is a great tune up race for the start of our season. Coach Greg Myhr and his team are very welcoming hosts who can accommodate our squad and provide competition for every athlete we have boated. We took the entire squad on a bus to Marietta. We were gone for a total of 34 hours; about 22 of it was spent on the bus, eight was spent sleeping at a hotel in Columbus, Ohio, and approximately one hour was spent descending like locusts on two different grocery stores to buy food. That left about three hours to get set up and some racing in before we headed back.
"We brought the cold windy weather, but the water on the Muskingum River was great and the racing was solid. It's early in the season and we still need to work on rowing cleanly in windy conditions, but we're on the right track in terms of development.
"Some freshman are stepping into roles on the varsity and the sophomores are making the leap to important roles in their respective boats. We have spring break training at our boathouse and then a big test coming up in two weeks out in California. We'll measure ourselves against some top competition in our sport including the defending national champs, so in the meantime we need to continue pushing the rock up the hill."
Up Next: Wisconsin will take two weeks off to prepare for the Pac-12 Invitational in Redwood Shores, California on April 6-7.
