MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin senior men's golfer
Cameron Huss earned an individual bid to the 2024 NCAA Regional - West Lafayette hosted by Purdue at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in Indiana. Huss is seeded No. 3 among the individual entries at the 54-hole tournament held Monday, May 13 – Wednesday, May 15.
This will be Huss' third trip to the NCAA Regional competition. He earned his first individual bid in 2022 and finished tied for 23rd place with a 3-over par performance (74-69-73=216) at the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Last spring, he joined the Badgers as a team competing in the 2023 NCAA Regional in Bath, Michigan where he finished tied for 49th at 6-over par 219 (70-71-78).
It's been a big week of honors for the Badger as Huss was named as Wisconsin's male student-athlete 2024 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner and also selected for the 2024 All-Big Ten First Team on Tuesday.
The senior from Kenosha, Wis., has built an impressive career as a Badgers golfer and his senior campaign has helped him earn a place as one of Wisconsin's top golfers in program history.
One of the team's top starters all four years with 36 team tournaments under his belt, Huss won two tournament titles this year and helped the Badgers win team titles in the same competitions at The Invitational at The Ford and the Hawkeye Invitational. Huss placed first at The Invitational at The Ford (Feb. 26-27) at 15-under par 201 (69-66-66) and the team won the trophy at 24-under par 840 (287-279-274). At the Hawkeye Invitational, Huss closed the regular season in first place at 12-under par 201 (66-66-69) and led the Badgers to another trophy at 12-under par 840 (279-279-282).
Huss set new career lows this season at 36-holes (132) and 54-holes (201) in addition to tying his career 18-hole low of 65. His 54-hole career low of 201 ranks second all-time in program history behind UW Hall of Fame golfer Ben Walter's 200 in 1994.
Huss also finished as the Badgers' top finisher in six of 10 tournaments this season, while helping the Badgers set a new 18-hole team program record 274. During the 2022-23 season, Huss and the Badgers set new school records as a team for 36 holes (559) and 54 holes (839).
Following the Big Ten Championships, Huss currently holds a 70.87 season average (2,126 strokes/30 rounds) and a 71.70 career average (7,611 strokes/106 rounds). Both of these statistics would currently take the top spot in each category for UW school records if Huss maintains his pace. Former UW teammate Griffin Barela currently holds both records with his 2021-22 season average of 71.43 (2,143 strokes/30 rounds) and his career average record from 2017-2022 of 73.06 (9,206 strokes/126 rounds).
