SEATTLEÂ -- The No. 15 Wisconsin men's rowing team traveled this weekend to compete in the 38th annual Windermere Cup on Saturday morning on the Montlake Cut. This year's event featured No. 2 Washington, as well as Italy, in an homage to the "Boys in the Boat" race from the 1936 Olympics.
The second varsity eight boat kicked the day off for the Badgers, taking on the University of Washington for the Cascade Cup. They were within three seconds at the 500m mark and within 10 seconds at the 1500m mark. They finished with a time of 6:05.454, 14 seconds behind Washington.
The first varsity eight took on No. 2 Washington and the Italian National Team. With Washington taking the lead early on, the Badgers and the Italians were neck and neck the entire race for second place. Ultimately, the Italian National Team got the better of the Badgers, giving Wisconsin third place with a time of 6:00.351.
