Three Badgers finish in top 25 at the Ocean Club

NASSAU, Bahamas — The Wisconsin men's golf team wrapped up its fall season Sunday at the Ocean Club by finishing ninth in the White Sands Intercollegiate, shooting a third and final round score of two-under-par 286. Overall, the team was seven-under for the tournament with a score of 857. That marked a season low for the team, breaking the low of 861 set last week at the Musketeer Classic.

This tournament will see entries in the record book for 36- and 54-hole team scores. The Badgers last recorded an 857 at the Hawkeye Invitational in April.

Helping the Badgers keep it under par was junior Griffin Barela. Leading the team, he shot a three-under-par 69 to improve to an overall six-under score of 210 strokes. He finished tied for 11th place after carding three rounds under par, and his final score will be recorded in the record book for individual 54-hole low score.

Joining Barela in recording a record book low 54-hole score was Nick Robinson. A final round at one-under-par 71 puts him at an overall eight-under 208 strokes. After beating both his 18- and 36-hole career low scores by three strokes apiece, he finished by breaking his 54-hole career low by four strokes. Robinson ended the tournament in first among the Badgers after finishing all three rounds under par. He tied for ninth in the field of 84.

A third round under par for the Badgers on Sunday came from freshman Coalter Smith. Shooting even par in both the first and second rounds, Smith was able to improve by one stroke for the final round to seal a 215 (-1) total and a share of 37th place.

Sam Anderson was also able to keep it under par as he finished tied for 22nd place. He carded a one-over-par 73 for the final round and ends with a total four-under-par 212.

Next time off the tee for the Badgers will be Feb. 7-8 when they head to Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida, to compete in the Big Ten Match Play.
